Updated my studio

The good news is I revamped my studio. Light and bright. Lately I am so into white. Maybe I am subconsciously craving snow? (Ah, no!!) Here's a picture I snapped last night.

The good news is I love it, the bad news while laying the bamboo flooring I dropped heavy planks on my "good foot" and am waiting for x-rays to see if there are broken bones. Can't put a shoe on my foot, but who would want to with that fuzzy rug? (I joke) Well, half joke. Thinking about painting my ware boards white. Fingers crossed I don't need another cast. Will keep you posted.

Morning Run: The Regent's Park

Yesterday was rainy so today I had to run. Tucked my camera into my flip belt. (love my flip belt) and off for a run in the Regent's Park.

Making Molds

Mold making is dirty, messy and a necessary evil. Thought I would post images on my newest mold. You might have seen it on my newest double figure. It's the face with closed eyes. I even got the cast face out in one piece after the mold was made.

My molds aren't pretty, but they do the trick. No slip casting. Pressing all the way.

February Calendar

Hello. I was very naughty and didn't post this yesterday. I was out jogging, walking and enjoying the perfect winters day in South Florida. I am about to post images of the newer girls. Soft silky flowing hair, free standing and all that. Keep watching.

Happy New Year

I told myself I was done with this calendar page business in 2015 and then I used my laptop and realized that I really missed it. Horribly. And with the new year will come new pieces. Lately there have been a few set backs, glazes shivering off the work. But I've got a new load ready to fire and setbacks won't keep me down. Here's the lovely Londiva as January's pin up. My Table Today

Thought I would post a couple of images of my table top. I've been trying new things. Pieces with movable arms and legs... flapping wings. And really large shakers for sprinkling cinnamon and sugar onto toast. Loading the kiln today.  It's funny because I sometimes see images of other artists tables and theirs are so clean? How do they do that? Really? I wind up  working and boxing myself into a messy corner. But after the kiln is loaded the paper is changed and the order returns.

Lamps have gone to the dogs

I just finished the lamps I've been working on. Say hello to Frisbee Fred and Vicious Vic. A whole lot of fun to make and sitting pretty in my living room. Bringing them to Artisans on the Ave in downtown Lake Worth today. Watch for them lighting the night from the window.

4th Annual Workhouse Exibition

Good news, 2 of my pieces were accepted into the 4th Annual Workhouse Ceramic Exhibition in Lorton, Virginia. Even more breath taking is how many years I have adored and held great respect for the juror of the show; Richard Notkin. If you don't know his name do yourself a favor, click the link. His work is brilliant.  I've been a fan since way back as an undergrad when Chris Federighi introduced me to his work. Very humbled, honored and thankful.

More wall sculptures

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day meet Mr. Green Feet as well as Hugs Hugs, and the bathing beauty Jane (you Tarzan, me Jane). I must make more with hair like hers. Sort of like a little German girls.

Victoria Rose's Newest Art

Another kiln was emptied today. These pieces are tentatively going to be sent to Pence Gallery in California for my solo show in December of this year. I am having a ball with the little arrows in pack baskets and the angelic forms dipping their wings.

Freestanding sculptures fresh out of the kiln

Unloaded a kiln today and here are the fruits of my labor. These little guys have packs on their backs and their little love arrows at the ready. They're free-standing and about 16 inches high. These might be on their way to a gallery in California.

New Salt and Peps on their way to Florida Craftsmen Gallery

I finally got off my lazy butt and photographed some of the new salt and peppers that have been laying in boxes in my hallway since unloading the kiln 2 weeks ago.  Shame shame... These kids will be on their way to Florida Craftsmen Gallery in St. Petersburg, Florida. Having fun with native motifs of course wings and dots too.

Working in the studio on Salt and Peppers

My inventory of salt and pepper shakers was nearly depleted. And now you know how I spent my weekend. I've got smaller and larger sets. I think 9 sets in total on my work table. Several of these will be winging their way to Florida Craftsmen Gallery as soon as they're fired.

Ceramic Sculpture for July

Since getting back from California I have been making doubles (double figures). Lots of doubles. Got some nice influences from the West. The vibrant colors, the native and Spanish influence. If you saw my facebook page or the photo posted earlier from California I had this crazy pictures of a red wagon filled with cactus. That inspired this piece titled Dreamer.

The double figure and free standing figure have long braids inspired by native peoples, and the heart on the free standing figure reads "Love Is Love". Which it is. And that's that.

MTSU online exhibiton

Received a message today that the online 12 x 12 exhibition at MTSU is now live. Don't know about you, but I am always on the hunt for new artists to ogle. Perhaps you'll find a new fav. amongst the thumbnails.

Small Favors at the Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA

Great news, three of my pieces were selected for the Small Favors VIII Exhibition at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA.  The show is a really great concept. No piece can be larger than 4 inches and no piece can cost more than $100.  What I really like about it is that it allows people access to affordable art.  I adore it when my favorite artists do the same. So hopefully those of you who have tight budgets can pop by The Clay Studio between May 3 - June 2, 2013.

There will be  mini versions of these little guys at the gallery. The first piece is called If Marie Antoinette was a Bird in a Push Up Bra and the second is called Dog with a Ball and I believe they will retail for $90.

So what are you waiting for? Support local art and craft galleries. They are small businesses and they really need your support. And so do artists.

What a Mess

Holy crap. I have to clean my studio. Look at what happens when I am ready to load a kiln. This week I was really pushing myself to work. Making 6 salt and pepper sets, 8 wall pieces (two of them are doubles), I glazed 27 coffee mugs for a charity event at South Shores Tavern here in Lake Worth, and one large winged boy all this week. My studio is a mess. I can't move, seriously I am relegated to putting work on the chair. Look at the tops of large figures stashed under my table. Open glaze bottles everywhere. Ugh, glaze on the floor. So dirty.

3 of the pieces on the wall are commissions and I haven't had time to photograph and list on Etsy. Can't focus until I clean. Are you like that too? It's like cleaning my space clears my mind.

Good news the kiln is loaded and I'll have some new work to show hopefully on Sunday. If the kiln Gods smile upon me).

Three Birds on a Three Dog Night

I just had to post these tonight. Last week when I was sick with pneumonia I couldn't even sit in my studio to sculpt. How frustrating. But me being me... I got a tray covered with a towel and several lumps of clay so I could sculpt while lying on the couch not having to move. (yes, I am a sick girl in many ways) But I had these creatures in me and they needed to get out. My goal is to do an installation with dozens and dozens of them on a wall. I want to be selfish and keep a bunch and wrap them around my living room wall. They will be sold separately but I love the idea of grouping them together or mixing and mingling birds with dogs or rabbits. Of course my human figures sprinkled among them too. 

As you know I have been making the animals to go with figures and I swear I can crank these beasties out bullet fast. I sit there spacing out with a chunk of clay and the next thing I know there's a critter in my lap. (clay critters and not rats or anything like that)

I hope you enjoy them. But I am totally having a lot of fun making them and isn't that what counts?

New web site coming soon

I am finishing up the last little fiddly bits on my new web site. Within the next few days I am going to pull down the old site and replace it with a new shiny version. You'll notice similarities and major differences. Biggest difference is the green is gone replace with clean white background.

I am including a screen shot of one version of the homepage. I say one version because each time you refresh the page the image changes. There are 12 different figures and sketchbook page combinations. So if you are so inclined be sure to hit the refresh button or go back home and notice the different layouts. If you are a web builder/ designer I got the code for the random image from javascriptkit. I love that site and send my students there all of the time. It's also worth mentioning I got the code for my form on the contact page from thesitewizard. Follow the instructions and you too can have a really easy form on your site. There are so many people sharing great bits out there. If you find any please share them with me too.

And I  have also decided that I am going to start showing more sketches and am about to start selling prints of my sketches in my Etsy shop. Well, the sketches that aren't covered in clay since I do use my sketchbooks while working in the studio. Hope you like the new concept for the site.
