Newest Sculpture: Londiva

I've been sketching like a fiend because I wanted to try something different. Here's what I've been doing. Sewing clothes on nude figures and combining mixed media. Her necklaces are real pearls, her brooch is one of my mom's old pearl earrings and her crown is metal. Thinking I am in love.

My Table Today

Thought I would post a couple of images of my table top. I've been trying new things. Pieces with movable arms and legs... flapping wings. And really large shakers for sprinkling cinnamon and sugar onto toast. Loading the kiln today.  It's funny because I sometimes see images of other artists tables and theirs are so clean? How do they do that? Really? I wind up  working and boxing myself into a messy corner. But after the kiln is loaded the paper is changed and the order returns.

Permission to be Weird

My blog entry for CreateMixedMedia.com will be about weirdness this month. Hope you check it out.   I created a permission slip that allows us to be weird despite cocked eyebrows and snickers from others. Yes, I am weird but it makes me uniquely me. If you need permission to be weird, print a copy and fill it out and hang it on your wall so you don't take yourself so serious. Or do you have a friend who needs to loosen up? Then print them a copy too. Have fun and stay weird my friends.

October Calendar Page

Happy October! My favorite time of the year when I get back to back to back to back scary movies. This is a digital painting of my Dreamer sculpture. Please feel free to use as your desktop calendar. Personal use only. Happy Halloween!

Lamps have gone to the dogs

I just finished the lamps I've been working on. Say hello to Frisbee Fred and Vicious Vic. A whole lot of fun to make and sitting pretty in my living room. Bringing them to Artisans on the Ave in downtown Lake Worth today. Watch for them lighting the night from the window.

Bark Exhibition: To benefit animal shelters

I've been busy making dogs.
 Having a lot of fun.
These are for a show at the Eissey Campus at Palm Beach State.
The show is a fundraiser for animal shelters. There are plenty more of these available for adoption.
Had a lot of fun with their names. Maggie the Mauler, Cindy Claws, Sunny the Scratcher to name a few.
The opening reception is September 16th from 5:30 - 8:00 PM. Runs through October 17th. All of these dogs and cats are available for adoption. See you there!

September Calendar Page

Happy Day! September is on the way. I love the sound of September partly because there's a happy birthday to my sister Virginia and me. Going to post images of some  new weird dogs I made later today or tomorrow. In the meantime, please feel free to use this calendar page for personal use on your computer desktop. Remember I always post a little twitter version @Vixterina.

A New Favorite Thing

While at NIADA I bought this piece by Reina Mia Brill. Her work really speaks to me. I think that this is what I feel like on the inside. And today on the first day back to school after summer vacation.... probably what I look like on the outside! Reina is really a cool person, and I am a huge fan. Did I mention she has a shop?

NIADA conference

Just back from Orlando and the NIADA conference. Holy moly, saw some GREAT artwork. Here's a few images from the sale today. If you aren't familiar with NIADA or the wonderful artists or the sale... well let me introduce you to:
 Ankie Daanen.
Chris Chomick and Peter Meder. You should see their automata (watch the movie Hugo)

Diane Keeler. Check out the Queen of Hearts and the Bride in White. I am drooling.
 And Karin Otto Burfict. Stunning.

 Leslie Keeble
and Marlaine Verhelst. The best part? They're all really nice people and a lot of them do workshops.

New Studio Coming Together

We're back from vacation. What you may not know is we moved into a new house 2 weeks prior to traveling so I barely unpacked and whoosh we were gone. The past few days I have been getting my studio together and I am ready to work. Here are some pics. My Toby jars seem happy.

Let It Be

If you know me well... or if you've ridden in Missy (my car) you'll know I have 1 cd in the stereo.  It's the entire compilation of the Beatles. Every album they made contained on the disk, and I have played it straight, non stop for the past 4 years. Give or take a month or two. And no, I never get tired of it. We went and saw Let It Be at the Garrick Theatre in London. I screamed like a 12 year old. Well worth the ticket.

Holiday Fun in England

A few more images. At the seaside, a garden in Cambridge, a ceramic cat, and street art in Camden.

The best thing about vacation is wandering with no plan. Make sure you take time to do the same. It's good for the soul.

Getting Inspired in England

I thought I'd share a few images from our trip to London. A raven in the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Westminster (Big Ben), and a thistle in Regent's Park.
